An Assistant Position is available at the Mathematics Department of
Konstanz University, starting January 1, 2007. It is intended for a
doctoral student, but could also be filled with a postdoc student if
desired. The position is for 12 months initially, but the possibility
of an extension may be negotiable. The successful candidate should
start working on the position not later than April 1, 2007. The
salary will be slightly over 1400 Euro per month. Depending on side
factors like the degree of professional experience, it could be more.

Doctoral (and possibly postdoctoral, see above) students are
encouraged to apply if they are working in one (or more) of the
following subjects: Real algebraic geometry, quadratic forms, linear
algebraic groups or related structures. The successful candidate will
work with the algebra and geometry group at Konstanz (Prestel,
Scheiderer, Becher, Schweighofer and others). The position comes with
a teaching duty of two hours per week during the teaching periods.
Typically, this means running a tutorial for students parallel to
some (mathematics) class. For this reason, at least a modest command
of German language would be desirable.
